Cathy has designed this programme for new Talenteers/Apprentices who are about to go on the cutting floor and for the more experienced stylist who wishes to find their passion and excitement again, updating their skills to fashion forward commercial styling.

Running a salon can be challenging – I know, I had my own business for 32 years, from small beginnings of an apprentice and myself to a large team of 20 plus, made up of stylists and beauty therapist.
With 42 years in the Industry I see a need to help salon owners and teams. As an owner you’re often on the floor – the biggest earner – so stepping off the floor to train can be scary. This is where investing in your team will allow you to do what you’re best at.
I believe in people and there are great people out there – keeping my classes small allows for very intimate one-on-one coaching.
I launched this programme in February 2018. I saw the need to fast track hungry young stylists with incredible attitude to be a productive asset to the salon within a year, with intense focus on their soft skills and cutting skills.
I invited 6 stylists from all levels – 2nd and 3rd year apprentices, experienced stylists with 25+ years in the industry, and a very experienced tutor from our polytechnic, to be part of the journey. The results were outstanding – look at the testimonials.
One of the attendees was Jade Scott who was my assistant in the salon for 10 months. From the moment she and other young ones came back to the salon their confidence and level of skill was phenomenal. They grew wings and are now a huge asset to the salon. The programme is like a finishing school that has that fine detail tuned to make the magic happen on the salon floor.
2018 saw Jade become HITO apprentice of the year at the New Zealand Industry Awards.
